CryptoKit will provide developers with a new framework for cryptographic functions. It will allow operations such as hash, key generation and encryption to be integrated into iOS applications.

Apple, a leading U.S. software and electronics company, is incorporating cryptographic applications into its mobile devices.

Yesterday, Apple announced the CryptoKit “new framework that will allow developers to perform cryptographic operations safely and efficiently”. The new capabilities added suggest that the next iPhone, Apple’s iOS 13, could come with a native cryptographic wallet.

The Kit was disclosed on Apple’s website, but is scheduled to be presented at the World Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 5.

CryptoKit will be introduced to iOS by Apple

The Apple World Developers Conference (WWDC) is currently in progress and will culminate this Friday, June 7. During the event, Apple has already made several announcements, including the new Mac Pro and its new dark-mode iOS 13 operating system. Meanwhile, in the midst of the conference frenzy, Apple quietly announced another important update for iOS 13: CryptoKit.

CryptoKit will enable developers to perform common cryptographic operations, including hash, key generation and encryption. According to Apple’s official website, these are some of the key features that CryptoKit will have:

· Calculate and compare cryptographic data securely.

· The use of public key cryptography to create and evaluate digital signatures, and to perform key exchange. In addition to work with keys stored in memory, you can also use private keys stored and managed by Apple’s Secure Enclave.

· You can generate symmetric keys and use them in operations such as authentication and message encryption.

Meanwhile, Frederic Jacobs, a team member of Apple’s security engineering and cryptography team, explained that CryptoKit was an advanced and efficient interface that will allow users to perform various cryptographic operations.

Apple follows Samsung’s example

The launch of CryptoKit occurred at the same time as information was leaked about the incorporation of the Bitcoin symbol into the Apple icon set. All four Bitcoin in-app symbols will be compatible with typical Apple typography.

The new set of icons will allow developers to integrate Bitcoin into their applications. However, many social media users noticed that there were no logos or other cryptocurrencies among the set of 1,000 newly released icons.

Apple appears to be following Samsung’s initiative to integrate cryptocurrencies into its devices. In February, Samsung launched its flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S10, which features an integrated wallet and allows users to store their private keys.

With growing rumors that Samsung is also planning to integrate cryptographic payments with Samsung Pay, it seems that Apple is intensifying its game in the adoption of cryptocurrencies. However, it is too early to say that the company plans to introduce a complete cryptographic portfolio on its devices or even integrate cryptographic resources with Apple Pay.
